The Hartford Speedway is located at the old Van Buren County Fairgrounds. The track was built as a horse racing track in 1911, but held auto racing that first year. The fairgrounds moved to the east side of town in the 1960s.

Annual racing on the half-mile began in 1951. The main track has operated as both a dirt oval and a paved oval.

For two years, in 2006 & 2007, the smaller oval shown here hosted both open wheel and stock car racing.

There is also some evidence that a smaller inner oval was also active in 1998. These Ed Esser photos are from 2007.
