The Detroit Grand Prix started downtown in the city center in 1982. |
1991 was the last race held downtown. In 1992 the race moved to Belle Isle, still within sight of the Detroit city skyline. |
A number of different types of vehicles race during the annual weekend event. Above are closed cockpit sports cars. |
The original downtown race was for FIA Formula One. The Indy Cars replaced the Grand Prix circus in 1989. |
Even the off-road trucks race on the track, with jumps and other obstacles added. |
