Mahoning Valley Speedway opened as a dirt track in 1957. After being closed for a number of years, the current paved track opened in 1970.

The track is more circular than oval, and has been long been nicknamed "The Saucer."

Many top open cockpit divisions have raced at the track, including SMRC Midgets, USAC SpeedSTRs, and the ATQMRA Three Quarter Midgets, shown in this picture.

The first incarnation of the paved track lasted from 1970 until early in 1977 when the track closed in May.

The track was refurbished by former driver Ward Crozier, and reopened in 1987 after nearby Dorney Park Speedway closed at the end of the 1986 season.

Modifieds and Late Models have been the headline classes since the track reopened. The formula has been successful, as the track draws good crowds weekly.
